Join NowDay 5
Welcome to Day 5 of your 28‑Day Dry Fire Program. Today we’re talking about the Reset + Prep Cycle—one of the most important rhythms in consistent, accurate shooting. Before we begin, take a moment to run through your safety routine with intention.
Safety First — Always
Treat every firearm as if it’s loaded.
Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you’ve made the decision to fire.
Be sure of your target and what’s beyond it.
Clear your firearm. Clear your space. Remove all live ammunition from the room. Your discipline is what makes this program effective.
Today’s Focus — Reset + Prep Cycle
The Reset + Prep Cycle is the sequence that happens after each shot:
reset → take up the slack → arrive back at the wall → press again.
It’s the rhythm that makes your shooting smooth, predictable, and efficient.
A Quick Note About Dry Fire
Most striker‑fired pistols do not reset the trigger during dry fire unless you’re using a trigger‑resetting magazine or a dry‑fire training device. That means you can’t fully practice the true reset portion at home with a standard setup.
So here’s how we approach Day 5:
What We’ll Focus on in Dry Fire
Smooth, consistent trigger presses
Returning your finger to the front of the trigger with intention
Re‑establishing your prep (taking up the slack)
Building the habit and awareness of the cycle, even if the mechanical reset isn’t present
You’re training the discipline, the feel, and the sequence, even if the gun isn’t giving you a physical reset.
What to Reinforce in Live Fire
This is where the full cycle comes alive:
Feel the actual reset point
Stop right at the reset instead of coming off the trigger completely
Immediately take up the slack again
Arrive back at the wall ready for the next clean press
Live fire is where you’ll connect the dots between today’s dry‑fire awareness and the real mechanical feedback of your firearm.
Today is about rhythm, control, and intention. Even without a mechanical reset, you’re building the mental and physical habits that make the Reset + Prep Cycle automatic when you’re on the range.
Ten focused minutes. Slow, deliberate reps. Precision over speed.
